Open sea, strong surf and almost nobody around — a beach for walking, watching the sunset and the surfers. The undertow is serious: not a place to swim with children.

An island in the middle of the channel, with clear shallow water on both sides. A five-minute boat or paddle crossing from Passagem. Bring your own food.

A sheltered cove in Peró, hill on one side and kiosks on the other. Calmer water than the open Peró beach, and a sunset worth waiting for.

The easiest beach in Arraial: parking nearby, kiosks, and that postcard-blue water. It fills up early in summer.

The warmest, clearest water in Arraial, in a closed cove. Reached by a 15-minute trail from Praia dos Anjos, or by boat. No facilities — bring water.

A long stretch of pale sand facing the open sea, with waves and wind — this is where the kitesurfers go. Good for a walk and for the sunset behind the hill.

Not a swimming beach: it is the stone waterfront promenade, with anchored boats, the Brigitte Bardot statue and the restaurants. A late-afternoon walk that runs into Rua das Pedras.

Still, clear water, good for snorkelling and for kids. Kiosks with beach service, and the priciest beach in Búzios — factor that into the bill.
